Statue of Liberty (NYC)
Hola!!
It's been an American Dream to be able to see the Statue of Liberty in person. The statue is known to be one of the most important statues in the world due to its significance: freedom. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to America in 1886, and the full name of the statue is actually "Liberty Enlightening the World". The statue represents the Roman Goddess of freedom, named Liberta.
The way the statue was built and its architecture are all symbols of freedom. The seven continents and the seven oceans in the world are represented in the seven spikes on the crown of the statue. The Statue of Liberty also holds a torch and a tablet that has the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
The Statue of Liberty also became a symbol of immigration a little after the 19th century, when immigrants would come in boats to America and the Statue was the first thing they saw.
The Statue of Liberty is made out of copper, and is known to have a green exterior, but what most people don't know is that the exterior of the statue actually turned green due to oxidation due to being a chemical reaction from the statue (metal) and the seawater that is in constant evaporation around the statue. But, even though its a very cool fun fact, it doesn't take away the beauty from the statue. I was actually amazed when I found out, I would've never thought of it. :)
The Statue of Liberty is a beautiful landmark full of significance and American history. It's a must-see in NYC.
XOXO,
